Git Sentinel · v0.1.0

Git Sentinel

A local-first desktop command center for the Git repositories already on your machine.

See the current branch, local work, upstream, and project reference without giving up control of your repositories.

Linux-first · AppImage and .deb · MIT License

Built for local work

Know what is happening before you touch any repository.

01

Separate Git facts

Working tree, upstream, and project reference appear as distinct signals — without conflating local context and remote state.

02

Observes, never takes over

It does not install hooks or run pull, push, commit, checkout, merge, or rebase on its own.

03

Responsive through network work

Single-repository and fleet fetches run away from the graphical interface, keeping the window usable while the network responds.

Deliberate operation

An observer for repositories that already belong to you.

  1. Add a local Git folderSentinel stores its path and inspects the available facts. Removing it from Sentinel never removes files or Git history.
  2. Follow local changesA Git metadata change schedules a new inspection for that repository only, with debounce and no automatic fetch.
  3. Refresh remotes when you chooseFetch updates tracking refs. The activity strip aggregates progress and failures without stopping navigation or scrolling.
